September 8, 2010:
Guest speaker: Mary Brewer - Traditional quilts.
We are proud to have one of the founding members of our guild, Mary Brewer, who has been quilting since 1975. In 1978 she earned a California Lifetime Teaching credential in quilt making. She became a NQA Certified Teacher in 1981. She was the founding president of the Estes Valley Quilters Guild in Estes Park, Colorado and has been in Who’s Who in American Quiltmaking. She has self-published five books and sold countless patterns throughout her teaching career. Many in Simi Valley know her as their first quilt teacher.
Mary currently teaches quilting at the Simi Valley Senior Center where she is known for her great variety of quilts from traditional to modern. She recently was the featured quilter for the Antelope Valley Quilt Association Quilt Show and Home tour in May. She will be showing us “a retrospection of her quilting life from double knit to batik.” This will be a trunk show to remember.
She will be conducting a workshop on a new approach to using pre-printed panels, adding attic windows, and then turning it into something spectacular.

Guest speaker: Sylvia Q. Davis – Stash Busting Quilts
In 1993, Sylvia discovered quilting and shortly thereafter, she joined the African-American Quilters of Los Angeles. Her quilts have been seen at Pacific International Quilt Festival, Road to California, The African-American History Museum, and the Riverside Museum, and she is now creating her own line of quilting patterns. Sylvia says, “My quilts would be considered ‘traditional’ in style; however, my use of fabrics and design are richly colorful and exotic. Another great program that you won’t want to miss.
